Today was GORGEOUS!! I'm just bummed that it's supposed to rain tomorrow. Suddenly a nice day and then ruined by the prospect of rain...shoot.

I know I've posted a million of these photos but I just can't get enough of the various cherry blossom trees around my apartment complex. There are about 3 different varieties and they are all beautiful!

What a cute little blossom :-)

And they come in big bunches like this!

Went for a nice walk through the woods down to the lake while the sun was setting. Weather still isn't quite right but it's getting there. Alex and I are going to try to go camping sometime soon. He needs to get away since he's been working so much lately.

Was kind of a crappy, stressful day. I just want to go to bed....

ZEXY! This would be my just-out-of-bed hair. It was so poofy since I'd used hair spray yesterday. I couldn't waste the opportunity to snap a quick photo

Today was pretty normal except when I brought out Biscuit and Alex insisted she was "asleep" under his arm. I was skeptical because Biscuit never sleeps on us. After about a minute, I had Alex get up and lo and behold, that darn hammie was gone! We removed all the cushions and pillows and no Biscuit. Looked all over the apartment...no Biscuit. Finally when I was looking under the couch, I realized where she was......INSIDE the couch! Yes, somehow in a matter of a minute, she squeezed her way to the interior of our couch.

So what you see here is Alex peering through a hole he had to cut in our couch to see where Biscuit was. It took us a good 20 minutes to get her out of there. She is such a troublemaker!!

And I opened this bottle of wine that I've been saving for a few weeks. Alex and I went to Total Wine and Beverage a few weeks back and I told the guy I liked sweet wine. Well, he directed me to this and said I wouldn't be disappointed. I gotta say...I must be careful what I wish for. I took one sip and could barely swallow it. This is like drinking a glass of sugar. I can't even believe how sweet it is. I guess I just didn't think "wine" could be this sweet...I figured it was just grape juice.

I like sweet, but, yick!

Woohoo, I've reached my 100th post! I know I missed a few days. I just didn't have anything to work with. Plus, I was working on my portfolio so I was busy with that.

But anyway, I'm in a good mood for several reasons....

1. I got an email on Tuesday about the house that the banks will be paid off in full (both of them) if we can close on or before April 24th! So this is a major motivation for Wachovia to say yes ASAP! Wells Fargo has already told us yes unofficially. Soon, this may be ours!!

2. I canceled car insurance with Progressive, got a refund from them and saved $250 by switching to Geico! I guess the commercials are right...creeps me out a bit....

3. I found an awesome new blog that I'm in love with! It's called Conversations with a Cupcake! How cute is that! She made this cake that I'm DYING to make. Check it out! Photo courtesy of Conversations with a Cupcake blog.
It's not just the colors either! It's got all the corresponding flavors...raspberry, orange, lemon, lime, and blueberry. It's like a Froot Loops cake

So, all good things to be happy about!

The one thing that doesn't make me happy is that someone has been trying to hack into my computer for the past few days so I've been busy trying to track them down. I've got networking helping me out too. I hope they track this person down!

If only I could bathe in the sun all day! It wasn't particularly warm today but it was sunny. I can't wait for the warm weather.

Wells Fargo has told us that they need one more document before they can give us an approval (or deny, I guess). He said he was hoping it'd be today but I guess it'll be tomorrow. I'm ok with that. It's taken this long already, what's another week or so? We will still have to wait on Wachovia, but Wells Fargo is the big one.

Hope everyone had a good Monday!

Phew, am I exhausted! Alex and I went to my parents this morning to help them with some stuff around the house and to put new brake pads on Alex's car. We got out there pretty early but after we'd finished putting the front brake pads on, we realized it also needed rear brake pads (despite what the mechanic told us). So we went back out to Leesburg to pick some up. We finished that up and hung out with mom and dad before heading back to Falls Church to have dinner with Alex's parents. Then we had to do our grocery shopping. We both are completely wiped out! There just isn't enough time in the day

Here's a cute photo of Biscuit that Alex took :-) She is in my shirt, haha. I love her adorable little face!

Dear Spring, where are you? I haven't seen you in a while and I miss you.

Please come back soon.

Raising Sand

There are a lot of good things in my life. Because there are too many to list in one entry, I will start with what I am grateful for today.

I am grateful for this little kitty at my work named Annie who when let into our trailer, makes a beeline for my office. What really melts my heart is when she sits at the foot of my chair and gives me this look. I happened to have my camera today (my point and shoot) so I decided to capture this face. She can jump, sure enough, but some days she will sit there and wait for me to pick her up. If I stare at her long enough, she will put her paws on my legs and stare back at me. When I ignore her, she will jump up on my desk and demand attention! Once she's on my lap, there's no removing her. She falls asleep and becomes jello! I can put her in any position and she will just fall back asleep. Because I grew up with animals, I have a hard time living without them. Having this kitty at work is the best of both worlds. I get all the affection and none of the mess. I highly recommend finding a job where you can have an office kitty ;-)

One of the reasons I love Mason is how beautiful it is in the spring. I am grateful for construction workers who notice this and try their best not to destroy it; at least not permanently. As you may see in the photo, there is orange spray paint. This was right by a site that they have torn to pieces. However, before doing this, they dug up large chunks of dirt with the crocus' intact so they could be replanted. I got some photos of others untouched but I was just so surprised that they'd take the time to do such a thing!

Spring flowers bring such joy so I'm glad they didn't destroy them. And I might say not a bad photo for my little point and shoot

Along with what I said above, there are a few of these trees near my office and I just love to look at them. The blooms are gorgeous! Does anyone know what kind of tree this is?

Lastly, I am very grateful to a super close friend of mine. You may have heard me mention her before. It is Veronica! We have been friends since 7th grade and while we've had our ups and downs, we've had a hell of a lot of ups! I am so happy to have kept such a wonderful person in my life! She gets me like nobody else does. Thanks Veronica!

Oh, and I almost forgot to explain my title "Raising Sand". I was looking for Alison Krauss music videos on YouTube when I saw a duet of her and Robert Plant. I listened to the song and loved it! It's called "Please read the letter". I googled the two and found out they recorded an entire album together so I got it! I am in love with this duo :-) I highly recommend it!

MR. Cooper

You wouldn't believe how many times I get called "Mr. Cooper". I guess it's because Marley is such a sexually ambiguous name. I don't think there's a famous Marley that's female: we've got Bob Marley and Jacob Marley...both males. Does anyone know of a famous Marley? Even the dog in "Marley & Me" is a dude.

So I politely correct them or just surprise them when a 20-something-year-old woman shows up in their office to fix their shiz.

I tried this at much more interesting angles but none of them really worked. And when I turned this right-side-up, I wasn't happy with it either...so on the side it will stay. I also have never taken what people call the "MySpace" picture. Well, I can finally check that off my list. I never really got why people defaulted to that. I personally think it looks ridiculous. Learn how to use the timer function, people!

Oh, and the clothes belong to Alex. The blue shirt is one of my favorites on him...I like the tie too :-)

I decided to break out the fine china this morning. I have chai tea every morning and the coffee mug is always way too big. Alex finally suggested that I use our tea cups from our wedding china. I am so happy he suggested it because it reminds me just how much I love our set! It is called "Ballet Ribbon" by Waterford. Right now everything is still in boxes in our closet but I can't wait for the day we can show them off in a nice hutch and use them for special occasions.

I'm really losing my motivation for this project and I'm sure you have noticed that my photos have been lacking lately. I don't know if it's just been the mood I've been in or just because it's hard to stick with. I'm hoping the nicer weather will help.

Wells Fargo has told us they will accept our offer, however, they still need to do all the paperwork so I guess it's not official yet. We still have to wait for an answer from Wachovia but we're at least a little bit closer! That definitely makes me excited! I know that when we have the house to work on, this photo project will be even harder but maybe I'll have more to take pictures of.

Anyway, Happy St. Patty's to everyone! I hope you got to go out and celebrate by drinking green beer! Had it not been a Tuesday, maybe I'd be out there too...

Rain, rain go away

The cherry tree outside is just exploding with blossoms and being that it's been raining the past few days, I decided to take a little cut of a branch. I LOVE these blossoms when the tree is in full bloom! I am very fortunate they are right outside our apartment :-)

Alex is at work right now for a bit. But we are going to his parents tonight for a belated birthday dinner. So that should be fun!

Otherwise, not much else going on. I'm working on my portfolio more and am cutting it down to manageable size so that's why I haven't been posting wedding photos.

Today was very grey. I'd grown accustomed to the nicer weather and am hoping it will return. I spent the day today helping my parents ready their rental property. The latest renters just moved out and they had pretty much trashed the place. They smoked in the house and had a dog which chewed the crap out of everything! Oh, and pissed all over the carpets. So my mom had to pay to have them professionally cleaned, which kinda helped. And we painted all the walls today as they were filthy as well. I recommended to them that they be more dilligent about a pet deposit and NOT allowing smokers! It just destroys the property. Everything smells...even after being cleaned. Cigarette smoke just permeates everything. Yuck!

I hope everyone's having a good weekend

Oh I'm sorry; was I supposed to write something here? This picture very accurately describes my current state...jello (or pudding, because I love it!). I just got back from Alexandre de Paris here in Fair Lakes. Alex got me a lava stone massage for my birthday and I took advantage of that today. If any of you ever get the chance to get one, I highly recommend it! Alexandre de Paris was amazing and so were the people there! Early in the massage when I was still adjusting to the whole thing (the twinkling fibre optics in the ceiling, the aromas, the stones, and the warm bed), I actually felt heavily inebriated. All my limbs kind of floated away, my eyes got very heavy and my head swam. The massage was about an hour and she didn't miss a spot! It was amazing and I definitely did not want to leave.

So anyway, for the rest of the night, I am firmly planted in the sack, dressed only in my plush robe.

No self portrait tonight but one of my favorite photos from a wedding Cass and I shot. This was right before we were leaving and we were saying our goodbyes. Usually everyone is trashed at this point and is very "huggy" before we go. Obviously this groom was gettin' down with Cass! I was lucky enough to be there to snap a photo :-) I love this picture

Today was so much colder than the past few days! I was completely unprepared and wore clothing for a much warmer day. I'm looking forward to the 70 degrees returning tomorrow.

I had a good night: I made some killer lasagna and spent a few hours working on my portfolio. I've been trying to narrow it down to my favorite photos of all time, including wedding and just miscellaneous photos I've taken over time. It's coming along pretty well. I have a few ideas for what I want to do as far as a website but that will come much later.

Alex also got home relatively early so we've had some time to hang out, which is nice. Last night he got in at 11:30 so I was already asleep.

It's about that time again though and I must be heading off to bed. I made myself an appointment to get my Lava Stone massage on Thursday :-) I can't wait! I wanted to get it today as work had me frustrated but I didn't realize I needed to make an appointment.

Happy Tuesday!

Another nice day here in Fairfax :-) It was a bit chillier and more windy today than the other warm days but I'll take it! Alex and I enjoyed several walks this past weekend and I took another today when I got home from work.

Everything is starting to bloom too! Right outside our apartment is a cherry tree so I'm catching these early.

I hope everyone had a good Monday

I finally got a chunk of time to do some photo updating. This is the fabulous purse that Veronica got me for my birthday! I am in LOVE with this purse and especially the color! I had told her yellow but I'm so glad she found this color. It's so sunny and happy! I can't wait to use it :-)

She also was so kind as to track down ValoMilk! I don't know if you guys remember, but I posted a month ago or so about these and how badly I wanted to try them. Turns out they don't just sell them anywhere but Roni found them and bought me a bunch for my birthday! They were buried in the new purse she got me :-) Let me just say how delicious these things are too!

I highly recommend them

And to top it all off...ice cream cupcakes from Cold Stone! These are entirely all edible; chocolate shell, chocolate cake at the bottom, ice cream on top, whipped cream and of course an oreo! Veronica knows me all too well

All in all, my birthday was a blast!

Fun times

I had an awesome time last night! I got to celebrate my birthday with all my favorite people and got to meet some of the Caps players :-) I also got pretty silly. It was a great night and I had a blast hanging out with everyone! Today was kind of wasted as I was pretty hung over but I sure enjoyed the nice weather! I'm looking forward to a few more nice days. I hope everyone else is having a great weekend!

Hey blondie!

Yup, still not feelin' inspired. I can't wait for warm weather so I'm no longer trapped inside.

Anyway, here's a pic of Alex's new toy; the Kindle2 from Amazon. It's kinda nifty although it certainly isn't cheap. If you're considering one, be prepared to lay out a lot of money

And I baked blondies tonight for a certain somebody! If you're reading this, AJ, you know what's waiting here for you tomorrow! Happy Birthday!!

And a close up for good measure ;-)

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

Alex and I just got back from my birthday dinner and let me say it was delicious! we went to this place, recommended by Veronica, called Evo Bistro in McLean. It's a tapas place and wine bar. We had some really great wine and even better tapas! I highly recommend it. And if you go, you gotta get the Pyramid dessert. It was amazing! Chocolate ganache, hazelnut mousse, and a marble chocolate pyramid shell. After dinner we went to Total Wine and picked up some bottles for this weekend :-)

I was really busy at work today but the day ended really well! not to mention, I got a great lunch with my very favorite lady and best friend, Veronica! Thanks for making my b-day special, Roni!

Just got some very un-helpful information from the selling agent about our house. She recently sent an adjusted HUD to the bank (as she paid off the first bank) we are currently negotiating with and after 3 weeks of hearing nothing from them, they finally got back to her and just told her they "got it". Nothing else. ARGH! They've been sitting on this for 3 weeks and doing nothing! So frustrating. The banks had been making such progress this whole time and I don't understand why they suddenly decide to drag their feet.

Oh well...tomorrow is my birthday and Alex and I are going out to a nice dinner so I'm excited about that!

A bit of a dopey picture of me today but it was all I snapped of myself. Mason didn't open today until 12:30 so I had the morning to enjoy. So I decided to go outside and get some pictures of the snow. And boy did we get a lot of snow! It was fabulous

This is the cherry tree right outside our apartment. It looks beautiful all covered in snow. I always thought everything looks like it's dipped in white chocolate in the winter.

The buds have already sprung and I'm afraid they probably all got nice and frosty today. They are beautiful little pink buds.

C'mon snow!

Sorry I forgot to post yesterday. It wasn't even a busy day...I just didn't get around to taking a photo. I think Alex and I spent most of the day playing Lego Star Wars on the Wii :-) It's a great game! We also spent a few hours tonight playing it. But the majority of today was spent at my parents' house to have a little pre-birthday celebration. Mom made a great dinner and cake! It was great to spent some time with them. Now I'm praying the weather channel is right and we'll get totally dumped on tonight with snow!! We need a good snow before spring comes
