A few new things

Alex and I put up some new blinds in the sunroom today.  Here's the old sunroom with the old, saggy, $5 blinds

Here are the new wood ones.  I had to do a bit of patching above the windows since the new ones mount inside the window and the others mounted above

It's tough to tell from the picture but they make a world of difference!

I've also been trying out my new Vibram Five Finger shoes.  They are awesome!  I did have a little trouble with the way it wore on the inside of my foot and gave me a small blister but it went away quickly and now I have no problems.  They're so comfortable!

And to top it all off, a cute picture of Chai.

AJ also got the projector for the basement today so it has become a full-on media room.  He built a custom screen that's 99 inches and got a super nice, 1080p projector.  It looks amazing!  I will try to get a picture of it tomorrow

Sorry for the lack of updates! It has been a busy weekend. Saturday morning, AJ, Kyle, Alex and I headed to MD to "Go Ape". It's a high ropes course that involves ziplines through the trees! We had a blast

We were the first group of the day. I was so glad to be there early because it got hot, fast!

Kyle's ready for her first Tarzan swing!

Alex too

Caught her mid-air!

There were any number of different "challenges". Sometimes you were given a choice of "moderate" or "extreme".

After coming home, we all napped for quite a bit since we were all worn out.  Then we had some friends over for drinks and baking
There were tie-dye sugar cookies...

Pumpkin pie ice cream...

And a big-ass cheesecake with gingersnap crust, courtesy of yours truly.  All were delicious!

In a few hours, we will all be heading out to see Blues Traveler and Carbon Leaf.  Looking forward to it!

ITU Event

Last year, I won Employee of the Month for ITU. Today there was an event for all the people in the past year who have won EOM. It was held at the Fairfax Country Club; drink and food was served. It was a nice event and they had these great centerpieces.

When I was leaving, I heard they were going to throw them away; so I took one home!

Such a great looking bunch of flowers!

On another note; AJ and Kyle have wasted no time in making the basement "their own".  It is looking great!  Just a reminder of what it used to look like...

And of what it looks like now...

I'd say it's looking pretty darn good.  They are having a couch delivered tomorrow so that will be the final piece that needs to go down there.  I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!

Just some flowers

My mother-in-law cut me some beautiful hydrangea from her yard today. Aren't they gorgeous?

They have such full blooms :-)

That is all

Painted now

I painted the basement today, as you can see. I wasn't so sure about the color when I opened the cans because it simply looked like white.

Once I got it on the walls, I still wasn't sure; but now that it's dried, it looks the way I intended.

It's a very light blue-ish grey. I think it works well in the room :-)

New kitchen light!

We got a kitchen light over the island! Before this, there was a horrible florescent light that we took down and there was simply a wire hanging out of the ceiling for at least 6 months.

It it amazing how much it changes the room! I know it's hard to tell from the picture, but trust me. It works wonders!

Baseboards done

We finished the baseboards on Tuesday night before picking up AJ and Kyle. Baseboards seem so easy to do now.

AJ and Kyle have even begun to make the space their own already. Tonight I will be fixing the rest of the drywall and painting

A long time ago, even before Alex and I bought the house, this is what our basement looked like.  Because of water damage, the previous owners had to rip out the drywall.

Due to the conditions of our mortgage, we had to either turn this into a finished basement or rip it all out.  About a month before we actually got word that the house was ours, we finished the drywall and tossed some junky carpet in there that we found in the garage
Voila!  Good enough for the bank, I guess

And then it became our junk room

Alex and I weren't crazy about the carpet and AJ and Kyle need a place to hang out...hence the bamboo floors!  They are laminate, if you can believe it.  And it only took us a day and 1/2 to put them in!  They are a click-lock, floating floor; meaning they don't need to be nailed or glued down.
They look fantastic!  I also began priming all the old, 80's dungeon basement-lookin' wood.  This is is before.
Another shot of the room
All primed

Close up of the bamboo
These are the old doors leading into the laundry room.
I primed these too.

Alex and I have been joking that these floors will save your marriage!  They are so easy to put in; especially compared to installing real hardwood floors...something I would never want to do again.  In all honesty, I would totally recommend these.  We got them from Lumber Liquidators; very affordable and so easy to put in.  We are now trying to find new areas we can install these types of floors

Tomorrow we will get baseboards and do the finishing touches.  What do you think?

Camera in hand!

My camera is back!  YAY!  Canon had it for 3 weeks and they replaced the main PC board on the camera.
It seems to be working OK but the real test will be during a wedding (unfortunately) as it only acted up after shooting for about 4 hours

Alex wanted to walk to Five Guys for some dinner so I took that opportunity to bring my camera and test it out

There are so many lovely flowers in my neighborhood
mmm, delicious burger
Happy about Five Guys for dinner and me happy to have my camera!
Aren't these great flowers?

Alex and I will be laying the bamboo flooring in the basement tomorrow and Sunday.  I should have some pics from that on Sunday.  So check back!  I'm back in business
