It's been a while since we've had a house project. We recently ripped up our previously blue stairs to the basement and replaced them with treads that I stained and polyurethaned. I didn't take a photo before, but you can see them on the right side of this photo...

Stairs after; just need a handrail.

After completing this project, I got antsy to fix the other two stairs and landing above as it has old, stained laminate and just looks cheap.

laminate on the walls...why? |

we uncover the first layer of laminate under the top layer |

oh, three more layers of laminate on top of hardwood... |
 |
after pulling down the laminate off the walls, I discovered the original beadboard! Exciting! |

This was after ripping up the top layer of laminate and lauan underlayment. I can't imagine why someone would cover up that lovely Lifetouch-photo-background-from-the-70's laminate.
I got all the staples out and cleaned the floor thoroughly. After some discussion, we decided to do tile so I put down some backerboard last night and we will do tile soon. I have stained two more stair treads to put on top of the existing ones as we cannot remove them. I'm excited to get the tile going!
