Quick preview!

A few weekends ago, I did a shoot for some good friends of mine.  They are expecting their first child.  I am so excited for them and really had a great time taking some photos.  Here's a quick preview until I can get more up

They are such a photogenic couple!  And oh so nice

Lots of new projects!

Any of you who know me well know I love to make some cake; even better if it's shared in a creative way!  this isn't the first time I've made cake in a jar.
I mixed up some lemon cake (rainbow colored) in a jar layered with strawberries and cream cheese icing for my good friend Jill's birthday
And of course some rainbow sprinkles to top it off!  If you are wondering how I get the cake to be so bright, the trick is gel food coloring.  I've bought gel food coloring from the grocery store and it's just no good.  This is what I used and it's the best, most vibrant food coloring I've ever used.  Don't waste your money on the stuff at the grocery store
On to project #2.  Alex and I got tile for this entryway about two years ago.  We've been putting off this project for quite some time now
We finally dove in last weekend and tiled
what do you think?  It finally looks more complete
We will be putting together some plans to build some type of storage bench and shelves in the closet area.  This is my inspiration
Project #3, I created some button earrings for myself.  I used a button cover kit and just used some fabric I had lying around
I definitely plan on making some more, with smaller buttons
 They're pretty darn cute, though!
Bonus flower picture; Trader Joes has the best flowers anywhere!

Tufted ottoman

After seeing many DIY Tufted Ottomans on several blogs, I decided it was time I tried!  I've always wanted a large ottoman but they're rather pricey.  This cost me about $50!  I got the table off Craigslist for $10.  The top was not in great shape but the table was sturdy and that's all that matters.  I initially bought foam from Jo-Ann Fabrics but it was incredibly expensive.  I then had an idea!  What if I bought a foam mattress topper off Amazon?  Maybe it would be cheaper...
Well, it definitely was cheaper.  2" foam from Jo-Ann Fabrics is $40/yard!  I got a twin size mattress topper (2") off Amazon for $30!  That even leaves me some extra foam for other projects
 Here is the table before
I spray-painted the legs and base black and that's about it.  This is one of the tutorials I used.  I even made the buttons myself!  I think because I have a patterned fabric, it's harder to see the buttons creating the tufting.  They look great in person, though!

Quick and easy

Here is a little project I just threw together in about an hour.  I have seen frames like this on
Etsy, usually about $60 to buy.  Well, I had the shadow-box frame and the cute patterned paper.  All I bought was the heart-shaped cutter ($3.50)
You can see a bit more dimension from this angle.  They stick off the paper a bit.  I absolutely love this and will probably make more!
