Hardwood

Well, it's been a lonnnnng weekend, but very productive. Earlier in the week, I painted the bedroom the new color. It's a very nautical blue but I love it against stark white. Looks very cozy and relaxing. The paint needed to be done before the flooring went down.

Here's me telling Alex to pretend like he's having fun, haha. This was early on Saturday when we had just started the flooring. Actually, it took us about 2 hours to get to this point as the first few rows have to be hand nailed because the real nailer wouldn't fit against the wall.

Once we got past that point and got a rhythm down, we accomplished a lot! We did most of this today. We got less than half that's shown in this photo done on Saturday. I would line up the pieces and Alex would nail them. It worked great!

What do you think? Isn't it beautiful! It will look much better once we have baseboards down as well. That's the next thing. Actually, this photo is a bit deceiving because I didn't show the whole room. We are about 3/4 done. Almost there!

And a picture of the nice fit around the A/C duct.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! My back is killing me so I'm hopping in bed for some much needed rest

One month run-down

So it's been one month since Alex and I purchased this house. I thought I'd do a run-down of everything we've accomplished this month. Here goes:

-finish drywalling unfinished basement
-carpet basement
-sand and paint front porch
-repair loose boards on deck
-patch holes in driveway
-tear out carpeting in 3 rooms
-remove staples and tack strips from 3 rooms
-repair leaks in roof
-patch, sand and paint all but 2 rooms
-get lawn under control (mow, weed whack, pull weeds, remove wisteria, trim bushes)
-extend downspouts
-install porch swing
-rip down wood paneling in dining room
-take all wood paneling to the dump
-fix ice maker in the fridge
-remove falling-apart vanity in half bath
-reinstall toilet in guest bath
-remove wallpaper (3 layers in some spots) from all rooms
-flip around door in half bath
-recaulk bath tub in upstairs bath
-CLEAN entire house
-steam clean remaining carpets
-power wash exterior of house
-fix squeaks in sub floor

I think that's about it! For now. Here are a few pictures:

Alex's parents van after we loaded it up with all the wood paneling

Garage finally FREE of the clutter! We can almost get a car in there, woohoo!

Our hardwood floors we picked up today, sitting in our living room. Here's a quick picture of the color. It's not the best but you get the idea. These boxes were HEAVY!

sun worshipper

It was so beautiful today! This is what I wish I could have done all day...just sit outside and soak up the rays. Fortunately, I got to spend some time outside but not as much as I would have liked.

I am so looking forward to this long weekend!

Wino

Ahh, painting and drinking wine. So maybe these two activities should be enjoyed separately but it was much more fun this way! What do you think of the light green color? I'm a little freaked out by it but Alex loves it. We'll see how it looks when it dries. The dark green color beside it is another one we tried but I thought it was way too dark. Picking colors is so hard!

Swinging the world by the tail

I forgot to post this on Wednesday. Erik's girlfriend made this cake for the Caps game. The cake was delicious...the game obviously sucked. I'm the type of person who feels that if cake is there, the night can't really be all that bad ;-)

Anyway, I've been ridiculously busy...obviously since I haven't posted. I think this has moved to a house progress blog and I guess that's ok. I simply don't have the time or motivation to do the photos of myself. But I will keep updating everyone on the house.

Success! We got all the wood paneling out of our dining room!! YAY! We also bought all our drywall this weekend (to cover it up) and moved the rest of our stuff from the apartment (futon and such). Alex's parents let us borrow their van to get this done. It worked perfectly. 8ft sheets of drywall fit like a glove in the van! It was awesome. So our goal is to chase a wire for an overhead light in the dining room before we put up the nice new drywall. Then we can hang drywall, spackle, paint and then put down flooring. We have also finally picked out our flooring and will be ordering it this week.

Check out the dining room...

Crushing defeat

After crushing defeat in the Caps game (lost 2-6), we come home and Alex decides to attack the dining room again. We find this behind the 2 layers of paneling. An omen? Or simply the person who installed this crap feeling certain this drywall would never see the light of day again. I think it might be written in blood...or mold...

Damn that game sucked

Humph

Today sucked...it just plain sucked big time. I'm way too exhausted and pissed off to bitch about it all but the icing on the cake was that I left my wallet sitting on my desk at work. Normally I wouldn't be too worried about it but it was unusually full of cash (payment from the wedding this past Saturday) and our cleaning crews at work are well-known for their sticky fingers. I know if I didn't go get it, all that cash and probably my wallet would have been gone the next morning. So, whatever, I have to drive back to work. I seem to have picked the day that Mason was holding some type of graduation...high school perhaps. Of course traffic was a shit-storm and it took me 2 hours to make it to work and back.

Awesome...

C-A-P-S Caps Caps Caps

Caps won game 6 tonight after a few long, hard games against the Penguins! The game was amazing! It went into sudden death overtime and my man Laich scored the game-winning goal. It was incredible! Such an intense game :-) So now it moves to game 7 on Wednesday and I gotta say, I'm pretty stoked

Ok ok...

I know I have fallen severely behind. This past week was just insanely busy. And so was this weekend. I had the wedding at the National Cathedral that was absolutely incredible! I can't wait to post some of the photos from there. I will try to post something later tonight...

sorry guys!

House

Tonight was caulking night. The bathroom upstairs (in fact, probably all of them) need to be recaulked. I was up to the challenge so I started last night and got about halfway done. I finished some of it up tonight. All the caulk was nasty and molded so I made it fresh and new. You can't see in the picture because it's cut off but the caulk is called "Alex Plus". Coincidence? I think not!

I also took some photos of the house in its entirety since we are more settled now. They are on facebook. I took too many to be uploaded into my blog. Feel free to check them out

Cathedral-y

So guess who's shooting a wedding here next weekend? That's right...me! Woo! If you don't recognize the inside, you will definitely recognize it now...

That's right, the National Cathedral in DC! Cassidy and I will be shooting there next Saturday. I'm so stoked cuz I've never even seen it in person. Should be an awesome day :-) Wedding tomorrow is in Reston
